Happy Jesus' Birthday To You

Greetings, Friend, it's that time of the year that
we all celebrate "something", hey? I trust that
you're celebrating the "reason for the season"!!

We are all well, "Thank you.", as we pray that
you all are, too. It would be great to hear from
you soon, especially if we could chat on the phone!
EXPECT A CALL SOON!

C.J. expects to be home for Christmas Day, though
he may have to get back for work on Saturday.
Chartel usually makes an appearance sometime
that day, so hopefully we'll have something close
to a "family dinner" together. Would be nice.

Chartel continues to take online college courses
while working at IHOP, and appears to be doing
well. We talk now and then, but not "now" enough.
Do you still have her number and address? Let me
know at heyrichey@yahoo.com and I'll send it
to you again.

C.J. is continuing to pursue improved employment
status, while hanging in at Hollister's. He plays
soccer 2 or 3 times a week, indoor and/or outdoor,
and works out at a gym to keep young and fit.
I had a great visit with him a couple of weeks ago.
Let me know if you need his contact info, too.

Cindy gets her foot operation this Wednesday, and
will be "booted" for a few days, with very limited
activity for "a few weeks", which, knowing her, will
mean a few days. Huh? She can't stand not to be
busy, at the shop, at home, at church, etc.
Keep her (and me) in your prayers, please.

As you know, I haven't been writing for a while,
due to cold weather, working too many hours,
and a bit of being "under the weather". Hope to
resume composing soon, or they'll have to come
and take me away. Watch for email "alerts".

WE PRAY THAT YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL
HOLIDAY SEASON, and that you'll give due
consideration to "making room for Jesus" in
your heart and in your life.

Love, Cindy and Bill Richey

Chilly Family Update - It's November!! BRRRRRR!

It just came to my attention that I was working
too much in October to post a newsletter. Ouch!
Actually, I've been working too much, period, and
it looks as if that's about to change - re: this
update, two blogs yesterday, and two more today,
including my new sports blog. Whew! Just
thinking about it tires me. Not really.
Ain't a whole lot new, but here it is:
C.J. did not get the job at Messiah, but
he's "cool" with it, as he's got good leads
on some openings using his Spanish! PRAY!
He's thinking about coming home for
Thanksgiving a day or two, depending upon
what "Nancy" does.

Chartel is still working and taking some
college courses online. She's determined
to improve herself, and I'm thankful for
the effort. We "dine" out with her about
once a month, and chat via phone when
we can, though not often enough for me.

Cindy is still at "the shop" 2 or 3 days a
week, in fact she's there today. Tomorrow
she sees a podiatrist about pending foot
surgery to remove a problem that's plagued
her for years and has been worsening lately.
PRAY!

As for me, finally got a 2-day work schedule
next week, as two part-time gals were added
to the staff, and one of them may go to fulltime.
One of the cashiers is training to be a "lead",
in hopes of replacing my spot in that position,
enabling me to continue a shorter workload,
and spend more time at home and at my "work"
creating and writing. PRAY!

Colleen and the boys have all been going through
"the flu", and should be just about back to normal
at this writing. Bill managed to avoid it at last
check, and hopefully is okay. He still flies that
"helichopper", taking distressed patients to
Chicago and Milwaukee area hospitals, and he
loves it - it's his "dream job". Would be a
"nightmare job" for me.
We trust that all is well with you and yours. Have a
GREAT THANKSGIVING and a warm winter. Be sure
to check out my http://www.willyswitnwisdom.blogspot.com/ and
http://www.homecourtorfield.blogspot.com/ as well as the usual.
I hope they're a blessing to you. Love, the Slovan Richeys.

Ahhhhhh, September, The "End" of Summer, The "Beginning" of "Unsummer"!

BRRRRRRRRRRRRR! I don't like cold weather, now
that I'm not into the winter sports activities anymore,
that is unless they're indoors.
Hope you're having a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.
Talked with C.J. last evening, things are going well
with him. His job is fine, he's playing soccer once or
twice a week, his back is not bothering him (P.T.L.!),
and HE'S GETTING READY TO CELEBRATE HIS
23RD BIRTHDAY NEXT SUNDAY, THE 13TH!!
Remember little C.J. riding his bike around the
parking lot, throwing frisbee with Dad, learning to
play tennis, making the high school soccer team
as a 7th grader? How the years fly by, hey? Now
he's grown, smart, independent, and on his own.
I almost wish we could go back and redo those
growing up years, except for some of the trials
and pains, know what I mean?
Ate dinner with Chartel not too long ago, and she
had a glitch in her school funding that she was
working on. Hopefully she got things fixed, as I
haven't talked with her for a couple of weeks.
Had to leave a message yesterday. She's "all
grown up", too, now, turning 20 next month!!
Remember "little Lelly" coloring, writing poems,
playing and "contesting" with her big brother,
"decorating" her room with markers, etc., and
becoming a "big girl" long before she was a
"big girl"?
Talked with Bill & Colleen's Nolan for a while
yesterday - he doesn't like 1st grade-says it's
"boring", though he has a "great teacher"! Huh?
Bill's still "helichoppering" patients to Chicago-
Milwaukee area hospitals, etc., with a 7-day on,
7-day off schedule. Different, but they seem to
be getting adjusted to it. Otherwise, Bryce is now
a teenager, and Garrett is Garrett - growing and
enjoying life as young boys do.
Cindy and I are fine. She goes up to "the shop"
2 or 3 times a week, though it's been more lately
with the seasonal changeover and the sprucing up
of the rooms in the store. She's busily into the
church, what with collecting prayer request slips
Sunday mornings, helping to serve Communion,
giving missions talks to the Sunday School, and
sitting in on the Wednesday Ladies' Bible Study.
I'll be team teaching with the Pastor's wife in the
high school class beginning next Sunday, which
will mean getting up an hour earlier than usual!
Been working too much, needing to help fill in
the schedule for vacations and the transfer of
our assistant manager. Have 5 days and 30-plus
hours this week, but should be able to start
cutting back after that.
Only one more column to print after this week's
"Suggestions For More Summer, Winter, and
Redneck Olympic Games"! Covering the local
high school football games, then resigning from
sports which means that I have to give up my
column writing, too, I've been told. Oh well,
I'll just have to find another avenue for my
"journalistic talents"! Ha-Ha. That is, if there
is anyone that is game enough to take me on!!
I've got an appointment with a throat specialist
on the 21st, then will schedule surgery for my
"lump" shortly after that. Have more labwork
scheduled for next month, so we'll just keep
battling with these "old age" issues. Ha-Ha.
Thanks for reading. Thanks for caring. Always
glad to hear from you. Blessings from Cindy & I.

Happy Anniversary To Us!

Can you believe it, it's been one year for Cindy
and I! Wow, how fast it went! She must be a
saint, lasting that long with someone as frenetic
frantic, and fragmented as I am! Ya think?
Anyway, we went to church, ate dinner out,
and now resting before going to two fastpitch
softball playoff games at 6 PM. How exciting
to spend your anniversay thus, hey? Really,
we both enjoy watch the guys do their thing,
and, of course, Cindy picks out "her team" to
cheer for in each game.
Little word from C.J. and Chartel, though we
do chat every few days. They're doing okay,
with no real news to report except that C.J.
is job searching to improve his lot in life. A
Spanish-oriented social position was closed
to him because of his not having schooling
in the social field. Oh well, God has something
better in mind!
Chartel got the grant she applied for, and
plans to take more classes soon. That's an
answer to prayer! Nothing wrong with being
a waitress, but she's got too much ability to
just do that for the rest of her life. Amen?
My health is still a question, as the third
doctor and third set of lab bloodwork is
pending results. Other than the lump in
my chest which has defied diagnosis, my
hormones are out of balance, and the plan
is to correct that situation with medication.
I'll find out late in the week what the latest
(Friday's) lab draw reveals, while an MRI
on my pituitary is pending. Will update you
all with any results and/or prayer needs.
Plans are to continue my column writing,
though I'm intending to quit the sports
reporting, to some people's dismay. Want
to "regain" some of my life, if possible.
Trying to write regularly on the two new
blogsites, though have a lapse at times
between availability and inspirations.
Those sites are www.upraising.blogspot.com,
and www.speakingforamericans.blogspot.com.
Please check them out and give your comments
either by email at heyrichey@yahoo.com, or
by the link on the blogsites. Thanks. I pray
that you enjoy them and are inspired.
Have a great August! Love, Cindy & Bill.

Here's Hearing From The Richeys

A short note to say there's not much to say -
maybe that's why there was no June letter?
Anyway, we are all fine, C.J. still working in
Harrisburg and looking to improve his lot
by job hunting, Chartel getting into more
college classes to improve her position in
life, and Cindy and I hoping to get out of
a few things so we can slow down! Huh?
My efforts to cut back on work have so far
backfired, as vacations, etc. have only set
me up for MORE WORK!? My 12 to 15 hours
have become 20 to 25, but hopefully that
will change soon.
I'm writing my blogs more, with a new one,
one of encouragement spiritually, being
named "UPLIFT". My patriotic blog will
still be a priority, as so much is going on in
our country and world that needs to be
addressed by a "common, ordinary, concerned
American". That's me, by the way, if you
didn't guess.
We'll be in Winchester, Virginia, next weekend,
visiting Cindy's daughter, Joy, and her family.
Covered 3 ballgames today, and will try to do
2 or 3 more before Friday to meet next week's
publication.
Our health is holding up, except that I will be
seeing a surgeon on Tuesday morning about
a "sore" lump in my chest. Hopefully it's not
serious and can be treated by medicine or
radiation and not surgery. PRAY!
Clicking on "View My Complete Profile" on
this or either of the other blogs will allow you
to scroll down to the others. If you enjoy
them at all, please pass them on to others,
and if I get email addresses, I'll send an
alert everytime I post a new page.
Have a great July, and thanks for "tuning
in". Love, Chartel, C.J., Cindy, & Charles (Bill).

P.S. I'm still writing my column, biweekly,
in the PA Focus. You can read them at
PAFocus.com, clicking on "local columns".
My current theme is a 3-part series on
"Remember That Old Saying?" If you
hurry, you can still read "A Father's Day
Tribute To My Children" before it goes
off of the page.

NEWS FROM SLOVAN, WEIRTON, & HARRISBURG

I REALLY DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS ANY REAL
"NEWS" TO REPORT, BUT HERE'S THE LATEST
FROM OUR PART OF THE COUNTRY:
CHARTEL TOOK US TO LUNCH A SHORT WHILE
AGO, THEN GAVE US A MINI-TOUR OF HER
HOME. THAT NEXT SUNDAY WE WERE BLESSED
TO HAVE HER AT THE HOUSE FOR EASTER DINNER!
SHE'S DOING WELL, FOLLOWING THE PENGUINS'
PURSUIT OF THE STANLEY CUP (RYAN PLAYS
HOCKEY), AND IT APPEARS TO BE THEIR SPORT
TO WATCH.
SHE SEEMS TO BE IN GOOD HEALTH, ALTHOUGH
A CYST INSIDE OF HER IS BEING MONITORED
TWICE A YEAR JUST TO BE SAFE. OTHERWISE,
SHE WORKS REGULARLY, AND TALKED OF
TAKING SUMMER COLLEGE CLASSES SOON.
AS FOR HER "FAVORITE BROTHER", HE'S DOING
WELL, ALSO. HE'S HAD TO GIVE UP PLAYING
SOCCER FOR NOW, AS HIS BACK IS GIVING HIM
SOME PROBLEMS, BUT HE'S DOCTORING, HAD
AN MRI, AND WILL PROBABLY START THERAPY
SOON. LEEANNE GRADUATES FROM MESSIAH
ON MAY 16TH, AND WE'RE STILL WAITING TO
HEAR WHAT HER (AND HIS) PLANS ARE. C.J.
HAS SOME VACATION TIME TO USE UP SOON,
SO WE'RE HOPING HE GETS HOME FOR A DAY
OR TWO.
CINDY AND I ARE FINE. SHE IS BECOMING MORE
ACTIVE IN THE CHURCH HERE, AND I HELP SOME
WHEN TIME PERMITS. SHE DOES HER TWO DAYS
AT THE SHOP, AND I DO MY TWO OR THREE AT
RITE AID STILL, NOT READY TO HANG IT UP YET.
HER GRANDDAUGHTER, CASSIE GRADUATES HIGH
SCHOOL SOON, AND WILL BE ATTENDING OLD
DOMINION UNIVERSITY, HAVING ALREADY BEEN
ACCEPTED IN THE BAND PROGRAM.
I'VE BEEN SHOOTING BASETBALL FOR A HALF
HOUR ON WEEKDAYS WITH OUR POSTMASTER,
A WAY TO GET A BIT OF EXERCISE BESIDES
EXERCISING MY MIND, IMAGINATION, AND
FINGERS AT THIS KEYBOARD. OTHERWISE,
I'M TRYING TO MAKE SOME SMALL IMPROVE-
MENTS AROUND THE HOUSE AND KEEP THE
YARDWORK UP.
MY NEW BLOGPAGE IS AFFILIATED WITH
THIS ONE, AND IF YOU HAVEN'T CHECKED IT
OUT YET, PLEASE DO. YOU CAN CONNECT TO
IT BY CLICKING ON IT ON THIS SITE'S PROFILE
LINE, OR JUST GO TO "www.speakingforamericans.
blogspot.com". BE CAREFUL - IT'S POLITICAL!!
WE HAVEN'T MADE ANY PLANS FOR THIS SUMMER
YET, BUT HOPEFULLY WILL DO SOME KIND OF
TRAVELLING, EVEN IF IT'S CLOSE TO HOME.
WANT TO CLEAN, PAINT, AND CONTINUE TO DO
THE HOME IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED, SO THAT
WILL KEEP US VERY BUSY FOR A WHILE.
THANKS FOR CHECKING US OUT. HOPE TO TALK
WITH YOU SOON. OUR EMAIL IS STILL
heyrichey@yahoo.com, IF THAT WORKS FOR YOU.
ALSO, OUR PHONES ARE 724-263-0505 (MINE),
412-480-7981 (CINDY'S), 304-374-4490 (CHARTEL'S)
AND 304-914-2249 (C.J.'S).
HAVE A GREAT MONTH! GOD LOVES YOU,
AND SO DO WE! THE RICHEYS.

P.S. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT WAS 10 YEARS AGO ON
APRIL 25TH THAT JAYNE "GRADUATED TO
GLORY"!? SHE'S IN A BETTER PLACE, WHAT
WITH WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE WORLD NOW!

LATE? NO - "EARLY"! Huh?

Sorry for those few of you who check here regularly, but a
combination of "busyness" and laziness (?), plus wanting to
know who misses our updates caused this post to be "late"
and "early", as this will probably suffice for April, that is,
unless some "late-breaking" news occurs.

Spring has finally decided to burst into bloom here, an event
that has long been anticipated and most welcomed. Clear
sky, sunshine, and warming temps are the stuff that I'm
thinking about. I don't care if I never see another winter!
Wait a minute, what am I saying? What I mean is that I'm
ready to move to a warmer clime.

Leeann had a birthday last Wednesday (I didn't ask her which
number), and as she was on spring break she and C.J. were
home for a few days. He had vacation to use from work, so
we had lunch with them and her parents on Friday, and he
came to our place until Sunday PM when I took him to meet
her for their ride back to Harrisburg.

They haven't made any plans for after her graduation, (that
I know of), but she has been putting in applications in the
area, partially, I think, because his lease runs through
August and they seem to want to stay in that area. PRAY!

Chartel left a message a few days ago, when my phone was off,
and she wants to take us to dinner. I replied with a "Yes."
Still waiting for her to finalize details. We don't see or hear from
her often, as I guess we're all so busy. TOO BUSY would be
my guess. You can always find time to do what's important!!

Cindy is still heading north 2 days a week, to the store. Their
efforts have gone so well that her sister, Sally, the founder
and director of the ministry, will be receiving an award on
April 8th from a Pittsburgh group that honors those who
"make a difference".

Cindy's lease ran out on the red P.T. Cruiser, so guess what
she got? Another P.T. Cruiser, only this one is "silver", my
fast-becoming favorite color. Huh? She found an '08 with
only 20,000 miles on it, for less than the leasing company
wanted for her '06 with double the mileage! P.T.L.!

I'm still driving my '91 Chevy Cavalier wagon, looking
faded and tired (the wagon, not me), as it starts, runs
well, and gets me to Rite Aid and back, which is about all
I can ask of it. Will shop for a replacement when she "dies",
the car, not Cindy! Ha-Ha!

I refereed another Pittsburgh Steeler basketball game at
the high school, on the 13th, and had no problems doing so!
I had been cutting back on eating and getting a walk in on
clear days, so I was in a bit better shape for the game. The
next Friday I was a judge for the "Mr. Blue Devil" contest
at the high school, having been asked months ago to do so,
not realising that it would be on a "March Madness" night.
Oh, well.

Speaking of the NCAA basketball tournament, we're having
fun competing with our picks for winners. My first day I
was "perfect" (my selections, that is), the second day I lost
a couple, the third day I got "zapped", and yesterday was
a good day. HOWEVER, Cindy has 14 in the "Sweet Sixteen",
to my 13! OUCH! I'll get her next weekend when the
games resume.

We joined a local church recently, and hope to be able to
be "blessings" to the congregation and pastor and his family.
There are very nice people there, many of whom I had
already known through Rite Aid and my community
involvement.

Well, "That's all folks!", as Woody says. Have a great Spring,
an even better Summer, and a wonderful ETERNITY with
Jesus! Love, Cindy and Bill.

Welcome February, I think!?

Blessings and Salutations! We trust and pray that all is well with you and your family.

Our title this month expresses the relief (tho temporary) that today is bringing us,
what with snow after snow after snow, and the accompanying cold temps that have
plagued us for the last few weeks. I was beginning to think that I was back in the
U.P. or the Twin Cities!! Huh? Today is sunny and near 40! WOW!
We are well, still active (somewhat), Cindy spending 2 days at the shop, and my
work schedule basically reduced to the same, in anticipation of "hanging it up" soon.

C.J. is doing fine, working full-time, and playing soccer when his back isn't giving him
fits - he thinks it's the same problem he had in high school when playing on that team.
He may have to go back to therapy soon, or he may just have to quit for a while.

He is the owner of the Lumina, now, and while it didn't pass both inspections, it will\
go back in soon, hopefully this week, to be fixed for his jaunts to work and to see
Leeann, and to visit Messiah College for workouts, etc.

Chartel is expected soon, (today?) to pick up her mail, especially her tax forms, so
she can get her (hopefully) tax refund on its way. We don't hear or see much of
her, but she sounds okay when we do, and we keep her nightly in our prayers.

My column in the PAFocus is being alternated with one of the other writer's, as
the paper is going through a financial "crunch". You know what that's about,
don't you? Amen! I've got some "cute" ones coming soon, (at least I think so),
and am anxious to see them in print. "Epitaphs" is next, followed by "Reasons
I Never Played Professional Sports" (Huh?), and then "Cereal Box Heroes". You
can probably figure that one out, but, if not, keep reading the website.

Other titles coming up are "A Senior's Bedtime Prayer", and "Writing A Column
About Writing Columns". Huh?

Our health is well, taking lots of vitamin C, along with multi-vitamins, ibuprofen
for those "over-60" pains, and eating well, thanks to Cindy's kitchen skills and
menu planning. I'd like to eat twice as much as I do, it tastes so good, but have
been cutting back, in an effort to reduce "Lump" to a respectable size, whatever
that is.

Oh, yes, a part of my routine and regimen is because I've been asked to referee
the Pittsburgh Steeler basketball game again, for the 4th year in a row, and I
agreed to do it since Cindy has never seen me "ref", especially a Steelers game.
She and her sister, Sally, have already begun to work on my "outfits" to "sport"
for a part of the evening - all in hopes of adding to the entertainment.

PLEASE PRAY - the game is Friday, March 13th, so I have some walking and
exercising to do between now and then.

THANKS! for checking in. Nice to know you're there and you care. Have a
great February!! Hope to talk to you or "hear" from you soon. Love, Cindy & Bill

Another Year to Grow and Go!!

Good day! What's new with you? Have enjoyable holidays?

We did, with Chartel here on Christmas day for a little while,
C.J. and Leeann here for a bit longer, exchanging gifts,
snacking, and just enjoying each other's company.

Cindy and I went to Winchester, Virginia the following
weekend, to visit her daughter, Joy, husband, Doug, and
2 of the 3 granddaughters. Had a great time laughing and
sharing column ideas, playing board games, and having a
late Christmas.

I was gifted with 3 writing books, a welcome gesture, as I
think I know what I'm doing, but could always use a little
help - after all, I'm not famous - yet! I figure that I'm
about halfway done with my first book, and hope to have
it ready to send for editing and approval by April 1st.
It is Christian fiction, entitled "My Name Is Lazarus".
Please pray for continued inspiration and writing.

Don't know why yet, but my columns are not running in
the other 2 papers any more. Someone(s) made a decision
to just run syndicated items, so I was told - haven't checked
with my managing editor yet, as she's on vacation. So for
now, just check the PAFocus.com site to keep up with my
craziness and zaniness. Ha-Ha!

Cindy had a birthday yesterday, January 1st, as did our
daughter-in-law, Colleen, Bill's wife. Cindy's 67, but I won't
divulge Colleen's age without her permission. We spent the
day watching football bowl games, her passion, as she does
every New Year's/birthday, and which I do somewhat, too.

C.J. owns the Lumina now, hoping to trade it or sell it soon
in order to get the wheels of his choice. He's doing well in
his job in Harrisburg. Chartel still drives the Intrepid, and
will hopefully take it's ownership soon. Otherwise, she is
doing well except for a health problem now and then -
nothing serious, we pray.

My work hours are down to 15 to 20, by choice, as I'm
slowly working my way toward retirement. Hope to get one
more debt eliminated before taking that final plunge. Had
to take on Social Security part B, and sign up for a supplemental
health coverage to prevent any health issues from becoming
a financial burden.

We still cover local high school sports, with an article or two,
or maybe three in each PA Focus. Trying to cover both boys
and girls basketball, and wrestling when possible. You can
read them on the website, too, under "local sports".

"That's all folks!" Always glad to get your calls, cards, letters,
or e-mails. It's great to hear your voices on the phone. If
you're coming our way (Pittsburgh), be sure to let us know
and stop in to visit, please.

Blessings and Love, Bill, Cindy, and crew.
